New features now ship from ready parts, not from scratch.

How do you make a data-heavy compliance platform simple enough for anyone to use?

CONTEXT

Inception ePismonoša is a Serbian information system for qualified electronic services: e-archive, e-delivery, e-signature, e-validation, timestamps and e-invoices. Companies use it to replace paper with legally binding digital documents.

Inception is registered with Serbia's Ministry of Information and Telecommunications as a qualified trust service provider, and its clients include banks, telecoms and utilities.

The web platform was a brand-new product.

CHALLENGE

Inception's clients are banks, telecoms and utilities, and the platform handles a lot of data: documents moving through archiving, delivery, signing and validation. All of it had to be simple enough for anyone to understand, including people who aren't compliance experts.

The product was brand new, so there was nothing existing to build on. Budget and deadlines were tight.

APPROACH

Complex screens from simple parts

A product this data-heavy is full of complex components, mostly dashboards and tables. Together with the lead designer, we built an atomic design system so those complex components could be assembled from small, reusable parts.

Each small part was designed once. A change to a single part carried through every table and dashboard that used it, which kept a large product consistent on a tight deadline.

Variables and component states

I can't stress this one enough. Setting up variables and component states from the start made it much simpler to build and prototype the whole product.

With states built into the components, a prototype could show how a table or dashboard behaves when you use it, and developers got components that already described each state they had to build.

OUTCOME

The platform launched, and the client was satisfied with what we delivered.
